Let's start by taking the time to be in the moment. Stand in front of a mirror and begin to see yourself. Breathe deeply through your nose, filling up your lungs, then release slowly and gently from your mouth. Focus on where the tension is stored, allow your body to relax and loosen the threads. While you continue to take slow, deep, breaths imagine this energy being released from your core, taking with it the stress of the day. Today we are showing gratitude for our body, starting at the top. Observe your reflection. Do not rush as you study the features.

What does it feel like?

Does your hair tickle your forehead?

Are you aware of the heaviness of your eyelids after such a long day?

Resist the urge to make judgements, take these thoughts and expel them, we are here to show appreciation. Does the reflection look sad? Notice the effort it takes to make the corners of your mouth turn down. Relax your cheeks and jaw, recover the energy you were using and allow it to swell in your chest. A positive energy will radiate through you. Let this ecstasy spread to your neck, your face, your lips. A force is gently lifting your spirits. You smile, exposing your teeth.

Notice what they feel like.

Does each one have a comfortable space in your gums?

Is there any pain or discomfort?

Is there an urge to examine every shade of white?

Now, starting from the top left over your mouth, use your tongue to study your second molar. This is the broadest of the teeth. Can you feel the strength of its foundation? Next is the first molar. You may notice a change in shape or size as we move forward, this is normal. We will learn to appreciate the uniqueness of all thirty two. Is it easier now for your tongue to reach? With practice you will discover so much more. Follow your tongue across the second and first premolar. Reflect on their purpose. What was the last meal you ate? Close your eyes and breathe deeply, allowing those memories to return to your consciousness. Imagine the two points of elevation holding down firmly as you bite. Respect them as mediators between the crushing and the tearing. We have now reached the front of your mouth. Again, take notice of your reflection. The rows are shining brightly back at you, performing in this moment just for you. See how your pink, fleshy tongue squirms helplessly against their strength.

Think of nothing but the chisel-edge piercing deeply into flesh. The warm feeling of blood flowing down the back of your throat. Feel the sudden tension in your jaws, the pressure in your tissues, follow it through the roots and deep into your bone. Realize the power you possess.

I am alive.

If you haven’t already, choose a favorite now. This is where we will start.

Pick the pliers up from the counter.

The steel is cold and smooth in your hand, the weight fills you with a sense of reassurance.

Find the target. Use the sensitivity in your fingertips to form a clear image in your mind. The touch receptors will do the work, all you have to do is listen. Take these thoughts and gently pack them up, we will now return to the present. The enamel will be slick, so it may take a few tries to get a good grip. This is okay, there is no need to rush. You will know when the time is right, trust your hands, trust the durable steel.

An energy, an… eagerness flows from your shoulder, down your arm, and up into your hand into the tip of each finger. Now, in a quick and controlled manner, clench your fist and pull. Allow your arm to follow through the perceived trajectory. Harness the energy you had stored up until this point and allow it to flow out of the open socket. Place the pliers back onto the counter.

The process happened so quickly, so now we will take the time to reflect, to let all these new emotions explore our body.

Take a deep breath in… and out.

Notice the stream of blood that flows out as you open. Concentrate your negative energy, let it pour out… down your lips… chest… stomach… coming to rest as a puddle on the floor. The pattern it makes on your skin is beautiful.

I am beautiful.

Again we will use our tongue to examine the cavity. Reflect on the difference. On the absence. Where a grown tooth once stood now lays a hole in the ground, ready to accept a new seed. Without the support your gums will bend and move with the pressure of your tongue. Joy washes over you as you realize this is a new experience, one you haven't had since childhood, one you thought you would never get again. This is a gift you have given yourself. Take this time to let gratitude grow in your heart and flow through your limbs. From the tips of your toes to the crown of your head, be aware of this sensation. Finally, return to the mouth.

You have shown love, kindness, and attention to each of your teeth and they are proud of you for it. Let one last wave of affection radiate from the gaping wound.

Solidify yourself in reality.

Breath in… and out.

Choose the next one.
